Standard Paths
Class: Stalker to Assassin
Best Characters: None
Aspect: Manos’s Fury
Weapon: Power
Stalker is theoretically useful for finishing off foes under 40% with cruel efficiency, but the 5% chance for instant death from fatal is too unreliable. Manos’s Fury is a good choice for a stalker as the 50% hit rate will be overridden by the automatic hit from cruel efficiency. Unfortunately cruel efficiency can only result in a hit, not a crit.
Assassin isn’t worth it unless you run many rogues at once (5 would be +100% crit damage) & even then it’s not that great because the relish in death skill for bonus crit chance is broken. At least I was never able to get it to trigger by doing kills on two consecutive turns or getting two enemy phase kills, etc.
Class: Thief to Trickster
Best Characters: Wren, Cia, Any
Aspect: Njallum’s Heritage, Ancara’s Glow, Shamac’s Tide
Weapon: Balanced
Thief to trickster can work for most rogues & having one for ranged disarm support is a great idea. Wren’s passive stacks with thief’s speed to armor penetration and with his excellent speed and mastery he is the best to take this route. He also arrives fairly late, so you can minimize how much time is spent in tier 2. Njallum’s Heritage (+20% mastery), fits really well with Wren to max his armor penetration.
This path has really high dodge & relies more on armor penetration for damage than strength, so balanced weapon to maximize dodge makes sense. Ancara’s Glow will improve dodge even more and Shamac’s Tide is useful for sustain if enemies start to be able to hit your trickster sometimes.
Class: Duelist to Gladiator
Best Characters: Corvan, Brooke
Aspect: Theron’s Passion
Weapon: Balanced or Critical
Duelist to gladiator requires care with positioning, but it’s a solid choice for rogue that can stand its ground with crit based sustain. Corvan excels at this path due to his bulk and speed. Brooke is a little slower and less bulky, but her dex growth helps boost her survival (defense bonus from duelist) and her luck helps her sustain with more critical hits & gladiator’s sustain on crit skill.
Theron’s Passion works well if you commit to using this character as one of your main enemy phase characters, since that will significantly increase the number of chances to critical.
Class: Raider to Slayer
Best Characters: Ford, Brooke
Aspect: Malice’s Suffering or Manos’s Fury and Orion’s Pursuit
Weapon: Critical or Power
Raider to slayer offers another one hit kill concept, but I found other builds to be superior at this role. Brooke’s full health critical damage skill makes her one candidate here & she could use critical weapons to try for 1 crit kills with Malice’s Suffering. One could also try putting Ford on this path with his best in class strength growth & give him a power scaling aspect to reach 1 hit kill status without relying on crits. If he can hit them! Manos’s Fury could put him over the damage threshold, but has the downside of 50% hit rate. Giving him an accuracy aspect like Orion’s to swap between the two could be an interesting approach though.
Other Builds
Class: Duelist to Trickster
Best Characters: Wren
Aspect: Ancara’s Glow, Shamac’s Tide, Varden’s Ardor
Weapon: Balanced
Duelist provides better dodge than thief due to the thrill. The 15% bonus also applies to the full dodge stat, not just speed growth from 10 to 30. The tradeoff is losing disarm at range until trickster & losing armor penetration based on speed. But if you want to go all in on being a dodge tank then this will be better than thief to trickster.
Ancara’s Glow helps boost dodge even further & will give a little power too. Shamac’s Tide could be useful to recover health and something like Varden’s Ardor could boost damage a bit. Balanced weapon is a must for going all in on dodge.
