Standard Paths

Adepts have the most diverse choices by far. Two trees are strength based (though Astral Seeker becomes hybrid) and two trees are magic based. Blaze + Firelord rivals the mage tree for magical damage & Blaze’s power scaling on kill can build them into a one hit kill machine. The biggest weakness across the entire class tree is the lack of bulk: only Firelord has high HP growth, only Reverie and Astral Seeker have good defense and no one has good fortitude.

A number of characters have personal skills that are very strongly aligned with one branch. Aurima’s stacks nicely with Blaze while Iris & Elias’s work well with Surge’s critical boosts. On the other hand, Thae’Lanel’s personal skill makes up for the complete lack of bulk for adepts and can work for any of the classes. Note that Thae’Lanel’s personal skill doesn’t help against enemy attacks that do multiple small damages: if someone attacks 9 times for 1 damage and Thae’Lanel’s skill would cap damage 7, it will not function.

Class: Gale to Windrunner

Best Character: Thae’lanel, Bianca, Elias

Aspects: Yl’undera’s Drift, Malice’s Suffering

Weapons: Balanced or Critical

Gale to windrunner is all about physical damage. Gale gives you a chance to attack again and with both classes you have three separate 50% chances to boost damage. High speed gives some chance to dodge, but this class lacks bulk. This makes Thae’lanel absolutely incredible here: he can rely on his personal skill to avoid being burst down & that’s all you need with positioning and healing. This path has significant magic growth, but does physical damage. Thus it works extremely well with Yl’undera’s Drift to deplete magic and power defenses. This could enable another adept than Thae’lanel to survive or just make Thae’lanel even tankier. Malice’s Suffering is a great choice for Thae’lanel as dropping his defenses by 50% still requires him being hit 4 times to die.

Class: Blaze to Firelord

Best Character: Aurima

Aspects: Vigmar’s Charge

Weapons: Accuracy

Blaze to firelord is a magic user with a ramp on kill mechanic that can be used to reach one hit kill status. Vigmar’s Charge and Aurima’s personal skill both stack with this skill to reach 8% power boost on kill. The other skills are random procs for bonus damage, but I don’t find them as useful as gale or windrunner, because the chances are lower and there’s only two instead of three. Firelord’s 25% strength bonus to magic can help rocket magic to the stratosphere and compete with mages for best magical damage.

Class: Surge to Thunderlord

Best Character: Iris, Bianca, Elias

Aspects: Malice’s Suffering, Kitara’s Chord

Weapons: Critical or Accuracy

Surge to thunderlord is critical focused which can be quite useful with Iris’s self healing critical personal skill. Malice’s Suffering makes her incredibly fragile, but if you want to go all in on criticals and positioning that’s a possibility. Eye of the storm allows any miss (or hit) to reroll critical chance at +25%, so surges will crit quite often. Elias has a separate crit chance that could work well with all the critical bonuses here as well.

Bianca’s speed and accuracy makes her a good choice to run a chain support version of this build with Kitara’s Chord. With just a few levels in accuracy weapon, Bianca should reach peak dodge tank status once accuracy and dodge are swapped, her high dodge means she can still hit more often than most Kitara’s Chord tanks & surge’s 35% chance to automatically hit improves this even further. Eye of the storm also re-rolls critical chance, so you can still get a crit!

A tweak of this support build would be to take windrunner instead of thunderlord, which makes the unit pretty much useless on offense, but ranged enemies are more likely to attack a melee unit that cannot attack back rather than a magical unit that can retaliate at 1 or 2 range.

Class: Reverie to Astral Seeker

Best Character: Elias

Aspects: Jahno’s Stupor, Kyne’s Passage

Weapons: Balanced

Reverie to Astral Seeker is a more defensive route with self healing. The first class is physical damage and has some decent defense, but not fortitude, and the second is a hybrid class, but doesn’t have a bonus from strength to magic like firelord or dragon knight, so the damage will be lower. However, with leeching 20% of damage from Reverie and a 30% chance to self heal further from Astral Seeker, this class is a great enemy phase defensive unit. Just don’t expect it to rack up kills without some serious stat booster investment.

Jahno’s Stupor can elevate this unit’s bulk & it’s not going to dodge much anyway. Kyne’s Passage is really interesting on this unit for a longer map: it will benefit significantly from power, accuracy, dodge and crit buffs.

Other Builds

Class: Reverie to Windrunner

Best Character: Thae’lanel, Bianca, Elias

Aspects: Malice’s Suffering

Weapons: Balanced + Accuracy for backup

This windrunner is a bit slower (30% growth reduced for tier 2) but gains access to life steal from reverie for sustain. With Thae’lanel’s skill capping damage at 30% of health, healing back 20% of damage is quite a bit of sustain. This could be used to make an enemy phase windrunner, though he won’t be able to respond to ranged attacks.

Without Thae’lanel’s personal skill other adepts will struggle enemy phase due to poor bulk & reverie’s lower speed means they won’t dodge very well either. They can still be useful player phase, but more care needs to be taken with their positioning.

Class: Reverie to Thunderlord

Only Character: Thae’lanel

Aspects: Zeltar’s Flight, Malice’s Suffering

Weapons: Balanced + Accuracy for backup

This enemy phase build relies on Thae’lanel’s personal skill to cap incoming damage and reverie’s life steal to recharge for the next attacker. Thunderlord allows using a variety of weapons with magic and has a higher hit rate than firelord or astral seeker, which Thae’lanel will need after taking reverie.

Reverie’s dreamwalker skill (lowers resistance by 20%) plus Thae’lanel’s innate 50% magic growth should enable kills even with 35% magic on thunderlord. Reverie and thunderlord have good luck growths, so with balanced weapon this build will have a decent crit rate that can be further boosted with Malice’s Suffering. When it’s not safe for that, Zeltar’s Flight will enable doubling most enemies.

The biggest problem is likely to be accuracy, but a backup accuracy weapon can help. If you plan to use this as your main enemy phase character it can even be worth it to position a magician or two near him to ensure hits or to enable using critical weapon instead of balanced.
